ENVIRO FOCUS assists clients with restoration in areas of changing land use, such as areas disturbed by mining, development, civil works, farmlands or landfills, contaminated lands, and former industrial sites.

While existing laws and programs protect or encourage preservation of many natural resources and landscapes, there is a clear need to go beyond protection and preservation – the restoration of damaged natural habitats. Habitat restoration is an important and growing element of efforts to preserve our natural heritage and to protect and restore the critical “services” that the environment provides.

This we achieve by retarding the loss of rainfall runoff, capturing this runoff and increasing water infiltration into the soil. We pay particular attention to the re-establishment of a protective soil mulch cover and the rehydration of the aridified soil.

We strongly believe in biodiversity and use only indigenous plants for revegetation of the rehabilitation project areas and pay particular attention to the restoration of the soil micro-organisms that are necessary for soil health and plant wellbeing.

Erosion control

The control of natural soil erosion is a first step to habitat rehabilitation. Effective erosion controls handle surface runoff and are important techniques in preventing water pollution, soil loss, wildlife habitat loss and human property loss.

Stormwater management

The control and management of stormwater to prevent erosion and flood damage is one of our specialist areas. Together with civil engineers the design, construct and implement stormwater control measures to address problems and flow.

Our Approach

Our particular expertise approach are to create the favorable conditions that the natural vegetation of the area needs to regain its former natural protective cover. Restoring nature to it's former glory.

Environmental management is an elusive concept that means different things to different people, especially depending on the context and the purpose or objectives for which it is used. At ENVIRO FOCUS we consider environmental management not only limited to management of the environment, but also as a management of governance strategy that derives its authority from a well-established legal mandate.

ENVIRO FOCUS offers a range of specialist ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT services  in both the fields of:

Usually an EIA, EMP and ROD determine conditions and requirements before a project may commence. ENVIRO FOCUS implements those requirements and conditionsafter the project has commenced, from construction throughout the operational life cycle (cradle to grave) ensuring that your business complies with relevant legislation, requirements and conditions as stipulated by the EIA, EMP and ROD. ENVIRO FOCUS combines a range of its specialized services in Environmental Management. Environmental accounting refers to the way in which environmental issues impact on the financial statements of companies and the accounting ‘rules’ that govern the recognition and disclosure of these issues in the balance sheet, income statement and related aspects of the annual financial report. This enables financial analysts and users of financial statements to understand the financial and other business impacts of environmental issues on the company. In addition, environmental accounting directly reflects sustainability and is a sensible business method to show that a company is accountable for its environmental actions and impact thereof.

At ENVIRO FOCUS we believe the environmental accounting process should include:

  • Extracting environmental costs hidden in overhead financials and reporting thereof separately and transparently.
    • Measurement and disclosure of environmental financial information.
    • Measurement, use and disclosure of environmental physical and monetary information.
    • Estimation and valuation of external environmental impact and costs thereof.
    • Accounting for stocks and flows on environmental resources in both physical and monetary terms in processes, products and process lines (waste, pollution carbon footprint (GHG))
  • Verification and audit of environmental accounting for inclusion in financial auditing.
  • Verification and audit of environmental audit report.
  • Environmental compliance audit.
  • Environmental performance audit.
  • Report on main features of environment affected or impacted.
  • Detailed disclosure on the environmental costs and the estimates of future costs.

Why separate Environmental Accounting and Auditing is important

  • Environmental costs are inadequately reflected in conventional accounting.
  • Unintentional hiding of environmental costs in overhead accounts.
  • Inaccurate allocation of environmental costs.
  • Inaccurate accounting for volumes, valuations and consequences.
  • Inaccurate allocation of environmental costs from overhead accounts back to processes, products and process lines.
  • Inaccurate characterisation of environmental costs.
  • Lack of inclusion of significant environmental costs in accounting records.

Environmental accounting contributes to enhanced environmental performance by organisations, while simultaneously improving operational and financial efficiency, thereby promoting sustainable development.

Accountants and auditors have traditionally not been associated with conservation or the environment. However, as providers of financial information, reports, and assurance on which business decisions are frequently based, they are increasingly drawn into the environmental arena.

The objective of an audit of financial statements is to enable the auditor to express an opinion on whether the financial statements are presented fairly and are prepared, in all material respects, in accordance with the financial reporting framework to present a true and fair view of the entity. Material respect can be directly linked to environmental costs, obligations, impacts and outcomes thereof. It is clear that the audit of financial statements requires the auditor to consider environmental matters as part of the audit - and will increasingly require the services of an environmental accounting specialist to verify and audit environmental costs.

Industry should recognize that environmental costs, liabilities and asset impairment affect the preparation and audit of financial statements. The financial statements, subject to audit, are those of the entity, prepared by management of the entity with oversight from those charged with governance. However, an audit is conducted on the premise that management and, where appropriate, those charged with governance have acknowledged certain responsibilities that are fundamental to the conduct of the audit – such as environmental costs and liabilities. In addition, the audit of financial statements does not relieve management, or those charged with governance, of their responsibilities. Non-compliance with environmental laws and regulations may result in fines, litigation or other consequences for the entity that may also have a material effect on the financial statements.

The credibility of financial reports is dependent upon the quality and accuracy of the contents and the mechanisms that are in place to transparently verify them. Stakeholders that make use of the financial reports must be able to do so in absolute confidence in the contents. External specialist environmental accountants and auditors from ENVIRO FOCUS will provide independent verification that the information provided is correct and is a means of ensuring that there can be no disputes over the accuracy of the report data.

To assist accountants, auditors, directors of companies and industry management across all spheres of industry alike, ENVIRO FOCUS will undertake and assist with:
